I need experience, looking into contacting local screen printer for help
Wasn't exactly sure where to put this...but I figured this thread would be suffice, if not, please move it for me.
Here is the situation:
I'm 15, i've been screen printing for about a year now, but I've never worked with anybody else. My work is OK, but I really need some guidance. I don't want to go to any classes..cause, well, That costs money. I was wondering if any of you guys think that a local screen-printer would be willing to let me hang around their workshop every now and then to learn a couple things. I'm willing to help (without pay of course) with cleaning or coating screens or things like that, I just don't know how anyone would react to that kind of question.
Has anyone here ever let younger people that really want to learn about the subject help out a little? Or is that just odd?

Most screen printers are going into their busy season I don't see why you just don't go work for one then you will get paid to learn and if it's a big shop it will be fun

If you are in a public school, see if it has a work/school program. You get credit for getting an early release to go work, and get paid too! This might work for your Jr/Sr years.

The problem with that is I'm currently homeschooled (which is why I have enough time on my hands to be able to screen print)
And the problem with bikecite's advice is I still have too much to learn before I would be comfortable working for money, really. I wouldn't want to hold anyones business up because I don't know what I'm talking about or something..

most screen printers will hire inexperienced people and train them. I didn't know anything when I started and after 25+ years a know a lot.
But some shops like to train rather than hire someone with experience otherwise start looking at things on SGIA's website they have alot of articles on important stuff don't give up before you try

If you go to work for someone, you will earn your money or they won't keep you around.
You also won't be starting at the top of the food chain! You will be catching T-shirts as they come off the dryer and neatly folding and stacking them in a box, cleaning screens, wiping up messes and anything else that the owner doesn't want to do.
If you are faithful, you will be given more responsibilities over time (lots of time).
Get a speech together that you can use when you meet the printers. Practice it on your parents a few times before you 'go live'.
Read Ben Franklin's autobiography. He started as an apprentice and his story may inspire you.
