Default Need Help Separating I Think!!!

Hi all. I'm so frustrated. Here's my problem. I am trying to print out a two color print. I know i'm supposed to have 2 different films for 2 different screens. When I go to the separations dialog box and check the box, it still won't print out 2 different films. Am I doing it wrong? For example all i'm trying to print is the word BRAVES in red, which i know prints out black, with a black BRAVES behind it as a shadow? What do I do. Maybe I don't really understand what a separation is? I really appreciate any help. Oh yeah I use coreldraw 12. This is so frustrating.
Heather

When you go to print are you clicking on print seperation. Are you using pantone colors or cmyk. With just red & black it should print either way. But just make sure when you bring up the print window click on the seperations tab then check the box to print seperations

In order to print separations form the advanced print dialog you need to print to a rip or post script printer.
cmyk will print yet not correctly for what you are trying to do.
if you want to use cmyk to seps this change your "red" text to 100% magenta and your Black drop shadow to 100% K (cmyk black)

If this will not work your not set up with a rip or postscript printer. A workaround would be to manually separate.

Create a simple custom crop mark. Make a plus symbol with the Freehand or bezier tool. .5 pt outline. copy this and place one on each side of the design.
Group. Copy the group to a new page. For the red plate remove the black drop shadow and change the red to black. Noext go to the next page and change the red to white. here are your separations.

This is a quick easy way. not the most productive yet works especially for simple designs. the image attached will hopefully help. it is one I did a while ago helping someone else yet same principals

Yes I am clicking the print seps box. I am using pantone colors. Should I click on anything else in the separations tab?

I'm not sure what a screen grab is? I know the advanced box is not enabled. It won't let me click that one.

Than you do not have a Postscript printer or Rip. You'll need to manually separate the art in order to print. Follow my steps and youll be able to print them without issues as long as you do not have any halftones. If your still not sure send me the file with fonts converted to curves, exactly how you want it printed, size and all. Ill manually separate this for you so you can see what I did.

Hi I just purchased a epson R1800 printer and the FAST rip software. I guess I need to install that then try it. Will it automatically separate it for me?

If you use pms colors it will separate for you.
Open the Pantone solid coated palette and use the colors from that palette.

A work around would be to use Black from the cmyk palette and say magenta for your (red).

PMS colors are less confusing. They may look a lil washed out on screen so youll need tog et the hang of using them or try to color calibrate your system mroe or better.
