Question customer wants MASSIVE JOB!!!! should I take it and deal with a headache or skip it

I've got this customer that came to me today and asked me if I could screen print words on some banner style wall hangings. They work for a wayward boys ranch, and the banners are going to hang in the gym (kinda like when a high school wins a championship). They wanted words like unity and pride, i think he said that there were about 12 of them altogether. They wanted the letters to be 12 inches tall by how ever wide. they also have one design that has a bulldog in the middle (the mascot) with the name going in a circle around it.

to make a long story short. . . I'm just starting out and this isn't my full time job nor does it pay the bills. So I was planning on charging like3 to 7 buck PER LETTER to make it worth my while. Does any one have any ideas.

Oh, the banner material is just like a thick table cloth and (I'm pretty sure) they just want one color . . . BLACK.

Any ideas send em my way or post a reply

thanks,
skyler

Indoor banners will never wear out. Go to your local sign shop and order then and charge $X over what you pay. Pretty simple.

Put them on the banner & mark it up! More cost efficient this way and you'll probably get repeat business when they need shirts, etc.

There are a few ways to go, Do they already have the banners??? and when you say like thick table cloth are you meaning like a thick oil cloth table cloth not regular fabric right? If so I personnally do not think screen printing is the way to go.. Laying vinyl sounds like the best thing.. If they already have the banners.. and they are the type im thinking of (that vinyl goes on). You can either out source the cutting of the vinyl and apply it yourself.. If you plan to go that route, I know myself of other would be happy to give ya a heads up on how to do it.
Or take the banners themself and have a sign shop apply the vinyl at a price where you can mark it up.. YOu may have to ask around at the sign shops to find one that will work with you so you can get a price that is low enuff for you to make a profit.

It seems to me to screen print 12 inch tall letters and get the kerning right and make sure they are all in a straight line so they dont look odd, would be a hassle. with vinyl the letters would all come together with a tape so they are spaced correctly..

i hope this made sence its early am here lol.

This may sound stupid, but where do you get the banner for the vinyl to go on?

Have a great weekend
and keep up the good work

I am jealous, I have had my Roland cutter since the end of December and still can't quite get the hang of it. I cannot watch the videos from Imprintable because I guess my computer is too slow because it keeps buffering and I can't ever watch the video.

Try a store that sells sign making supplies, you should be able to find that there.

okay. . . i guess I failed to metion that the customer actually GAVE me a couple TABLECLOTHS (they are the really thick kind used in resturants)
I imagine that the bulldog graphic they wanted would look the best if it where at least 24 inches by 24 inches, and I don't have a way to put images that big on screens just yet. As for vinyl, I'm not sure if that will look too good on the tablecloth material that the customer has given me. I mean, it's for a high school basketball team. I was thinking of doing some flags with dye-sub lettering on them instead of the tablecloth. . . at least it will still be cloth material instead of the shiney white banners. Or I was also thinking of having a friend of mine hand paint them or something like that. I dunno, I'm still pretty undecided at this point, but keep the Ideas coming I may decide on vinyl sooner or later.

thanks

Hit play, then hit pause. The video will keep loading, but won't be playing. When it's finished you can hit play and it will have finished loading, so it won't need to buffer (i.e. it won't be streaming video at that point, because you will have downloaded it in advance).

If you have a vinyl cutter and you are NOT in the "sign business too", you are missing a HUGE business oportunity!

Vinyl will work on the "table cloth" material you were supplied. If you cannot complete this order yourself (24x24... etc) let us know here. Someone can print out what you need to your specs and send it to you for heat pressing!
