I have never screen printed before but i am getting ready to experiment with some different water based and plastisol inks. My question is realy that i dont know if its possible to deal with plastisol inks in a home/basement area. Since it is an oil based paint and it cant be washed down the drains. So i guess i am wondering if there are any resources out there explaining with details the rules for dealing with the chemicals required for cleanup and proper waste disposal of used waste from this process.
Pastisol is a PVC resin based ink. Not oil. In other words, it's plastic. Mineral spirits will clean it up and you can dispose of the waste at land-fills and other places as long as you tell them what it is. The fumes off of it is not that bad and there is little hazard to your health. If it was...I'd be long gone. It has around the same bio-harmful things in it as water-based ink, which aint much.
Hope this helps.............Greg

If you have a washout sink, you can put a filtering system underneath. You can also buy biodegradeable ink degradents that will break down the plastisol where it's safe to go down the drain. A combination of the two is best for peace of mind.
