Default ellips dots on straight mesh

hi Newbie to this site but 30 years experience with good old spot colour screening, Comercial print Design and Sign Writting.

have done 4 col prints before but only as a contract printer using pre made screen ,
Am about to start process from scratch with new employer

here's what im about to do ....

col sep photo at 1200 dpi

turn alll seps into 22 degree ellips dots at 45 lpi

use basic 120 mesh all straight

print onto mid tone garment with thin white underbase

the picture is only abot 30% of the design and not overly fussed if it looks more cartoon than photo quality

from what ive gathered from forums and my own experience im thinking this should be fine.....

any help would be greatly appreciated

Audioloon

Hi Audioloon (cool handle)
I'd sep it at 300 dpi. with 22.5 degrees @60lpi.(could go 55 lpi too)
and use 305 mesh for the colors and would use a 156 or 230 mesh for the underbase.

looking back over your post about them not worrying about ending quality....I've also had good results using 230 screens for my top colors.

your not going to hold those dots on a 120.. for 45 line scree you need to be at least on a 225..
take your mesh count and divide by 5.. thats what you should be able to hold. 230/5 = 46... so 45 line screen.

120 t/cm = 300 tpi as a metric measurement.
45 degrees is bad, avoid.
