Question Help needed! .. I did a search but came up dry: easiest way to remove lettering

What is the quickest/easiest way to remove lettering from a jacket? I am a paramedic and have an old jacket with lettering on the back. It will be VERY COLD Friday, but I need to get the old lettering off so I can wear it.

The shell of jacket is navy blue and is 100% nylon. The best I can do is the lettering is 3 inch high and white, not sure what the proper name would be. This jacket is brand new. I have an older one, same manufacturer and the lettering "fading" and "chipped", for lack of the proper term. It almost seems like a sticker of some sort but not sure.

I am willing to experiment a little on the older one but would prefer not to completely ruin the jackets.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I could be screen printed or heat applied vinyl.

If it is vinyl, you 'might' get it off by bringing the vinyl up to about 300 F to soften up the glue. Heat gun, gloves and tweasers? I've tried peeling vinyl before, not much success. I used the heat press, but it is hard to keep the glue soft when you remove the heat source to peel.
If you get the vinyl off, you will still see glue stuck to the garment, I would try heat pressing sheets of paper over the area, cold peel. Try to get the glue to grab the paper and come off the jacket. Don't reuse the paper, load a new sheet and try again.

If your garment is screen printed, I doubt you'll get it off.

Good luck, you'll need it.

It sounds like it is vinyl

There is a good chance acetone will work as well. We have removed heatset numbers from athletic jerseys in the past using our spot remover fluid which is essentially an acetone

Get back with us on your results.

Tell us what did and didn't work.

PS: always test any chemicals in a safe place before you find out it reacts with your jacket colors...
