My company has a regular screenprinter that has done simple one and two color designs with great results. We are happy with his work thus far. The problem is that our shirt designs have advanced to the point where we have upcoming designs that require more colors. One of which has 5 colors. He wants 25 dollars per screen in set up charges for that design and that seems a little high to me. I wanted to check with some experts to see if my scale was wrong or if I needed to find a new vendor.

Not unreasonable at all in fact fairly normal for screen charges... Of course their are people that do it a bit cheaper but 25.00 is fairly standard...
I pay $17 per screen, doesn't matter if it is for one color shirt or 6 color shirt... I've even gotten it down to $15 sometimes if I'm doing a lot of new screens. I guess it depends on where you are and how much competition there is?

I'm currently doing business in plastisol transfers but I live in a small city where my biggest competitor is a screenprinter who only charges per shirt rates. He told me for 50 shirts one color chest print it would be $7 per shirt flat fee NO screen or art charges.
Less is not rare, but $25per is not at all uncommon either.
(screen charges aren't everything anyway... depending on the other rates it might come out in the wash, or it might be compounded by other higher fees)
