Question First greets and a few start up questions!

Hello, to all. I found this forum while looking into the tee making biz and I'm glad I came across it! I read the Heat Printing vs. Silk Screening? post and found it quite informative.

I'm some what in the same situation with a friend but despite my persuasion advocating heat transfer as the route to go due to start up cost, ease of use, and the learning curve, she still wants to do screening (we both have very little to no previous experience in tee printing fabrication). I've noticed one of the production level introduction screening packages we were looking at comes with a flash dryer and wondered if it could be used in the same vein as a heat press for transfers until we got the swing of screening? Here it is if anyone wanted to take a look at it: Screen Printing Equipment - 6-color 1-station t-shirt press. Also, if anyone knows of a better starting package, perhaps that can be used for both screening and heat transfer, or thinks this is a rip off, please do tell! We're looking at maybe producing 20-200 in a month more or less on both ends of the spectrum.

In regards to printing via transfer and screening on colored t-shirts, are there any caveats? Like will colors not come out, mix, or will remain distinct from the color of the tees? Looking forward to responses and thanks!

Nope. A flash dryer is basically a giant heater, and a heat press is basically a giant iron: one heats from a distance, the other has a hot plate and brings pressure with it. Heat transfers need pressure to apply, not just heat.

With both, there will probably need to be some sort of underprint to print on dark color shirts.

Screen printed transfers (plastisol transfers) can be put on any garment color and look just like a screen printed t-shirt.

When screen printing directly on a t-shirt, you'll need to make sure that you put down a white underbase to make sure the color of the garment doesn't effect the colors in the design.

If you are thinking to do 20-200 shirt per month, I would say get a name brand equiment then the one it shown from your link. At least those company know what the screenprinter needs and have better customer service. Also invest a coveyor dryer to cure the shirt if you can. Using Flash Cure Unit to cure the shirt is not a good idea when you want to do screenpriniting for a long run. The problem is, flash cure unit cannot have an even temperture to cure the ink. Once the shirt is being wash, the print maybe wash out.

You want to have a quality work on your shirt, and hope your customer will come back to you later on, and don't want to have "one-time" customer.

For example you may look here to check on their BRONZE package, it have a good exposure unit, a conveyer dryer and also a wash out booth for you to clean the screen. The price maybe alittle too much for you to start, but this will do a better job then the one you posted.
