Re: A little confused - a brown dye subbed t-shirt?
I'm planning on printing my first two color (waterbased) design tonight and have this question:
Do I print wet-on-wet - apply the second color immediately after the first one
OR
Do I wait for the first one to dry then apply the second? If I need to wait for the first one to dry, can you tell me exactly how long should I wait for - just let it air dry for a couple of hours, 24 hrs or longer?
Re: waterbased print: Do I print wet on wet, or wait until ink dries?
Thank you guys.
Steve, I don't have a flash dryer, just a heat press. Philip, no press either i'm just using the ezscreen stencils, so registration might be a little tricky, depending on the design. I did pick a design that, even if not aligned perfectly, wouldn't look too off.
I'll try both methods then. I'll do the wet-on-wet first since it sounds like the toughest one. And then I'll follow Steve's advice, print one, let it air dry just enough where it's dry to the touch then maybe quickly heatset it withe the press then apply the second color and see what happens.
Thanks again

but if you print wet, won't the ink from the first print get on the underside of the second screen? which could mean a big mess if you plan on making more than one print...
i'd flash it- even with a hair drier on high to make it dry to the touch.

I really like it so far. No troubles at all, if you follow the directions precisely it comes out great. I just need to adjust some of my designs where the fonts are too thin, I probably need to make them a little thicker. I'm not sure yet, I'm waiting for one of the screens to expose right now. But it does copy great amount of detail.

You can only print wet on wet with a press. The screen will come down in the same place every time, so it won't transfer ink where it shouldn't. If you print by hand wet on wet, you will get wet ink on your screen, then put it onto a different part of your next shirt.
If you wait for the print to dry first, the screen will dry too.
Since your design has a loose registration you'll probably want to print a full run of the first colour (then wash out the screen), let the prints dry for an hour or two (you can speed it up with a hair dryer if you want), then do the full run of your second colour onto the shirts.

I"m letting the first color airdry tonight, I'll do the second one tomorrow.
Do you guys know - if I want to get a lighter shade of a color, is it better to mix it with white or with the extender? Is there downside to using too much externder? It bubbles a little in the container when I mix it with extender, but didn't have any problem while printing. I realized that I don't have any white ink around.
NOw I'm waiting until at least the first wash to see if everything is normal. Does the ink loose any of its features if mixed with extender?
