Default Screen Print classes...please help :(

Hi,
My name is Sede and I've been wanting to start my own tshirt printing business for a while...something small to start with. I have been reading postings on this forum and other websites all day long trying to get ideas on how it's done.

Is it safe to say that screen printing is the best? Better quality?

Ok...i've been searching for screen printing seminars in my area, and I have found NONE!

Is there anyone experienced (with own supplies/equipment) in the New York / New Jersey area that is willing to teach a 101 on this technique? I am ofcourse willing to pay.

Any other information you can provide is very much appreciated.

thank you ladies & gents for your time & help

...my introduction post is the same lol sorry
i'm new remember...bare w/ me

Hi Sede, try calling the shops in the areas you have mentioned and asking them the same. You should be able to find quite a few in the yellow pages. Good luck

You should try checking the course listings at your local community college or university.

your best bet is to take a night class at f.i.t. or SVA...that way you also have access to there print shop and you can make screens there

ISS is having their annual trade show in Atlantic City, New Jersey, I believe it's March 18th for three days. I know that they want you to buy their equipment and probably throw in a few classes. It's a good place to check out a few things. But beware you will be totally overwhelmed, you will meet a lot of vendors. Check their site issshows.com

Sede, actualy I think it's not just NY, but the good ol New England all together. I have come across a lot of defensive, hostile attitute around here in MA as well when it comes to seeking help and advice and even just inquiring about the type of work some of the shops do. I don't know, I guess it's the weather It really seems like down South ppl are more familiar with the business and are more willing to share things with you than up here. Oh well.... their loss
I wanted to tell you also to check out the screenprinting.net site. They have videos and books for sale there. So if you are willing to pay for it anyways that's another way you could learn. I didn't look into it too much, but there might me something on their site that could be helpful to you.

yes...lol must be the weather! knowledge and wisdom are useless if you cant pass it on to others =-)

but oh well, you're right...their loss lol

thank you so much again for your help. I will look into all these sources and hopefully i can find something.

that show in AC sounds interesting...but gosh...march? thats far away. i will probably already be in the Nashville area during that time, but lets see.

calling up shops and asking question is not the best idea. why would any one give advice to someone who will be there competition, they have spent years developing there trade and there own secrets and there client base. it would be business suicide to just give advice away. thats why you are getting the cold shoulder.

Check with U.S. Screen Print and Inkjet Technology to see if they offer any online classes. They do have some training DVDs available.

Also, the book, "How to Print T-Shirts For Fun and Profit" will definitely help you get started.
