It's a process that's been seen a lot lately. I tried doing it last week printing a 2 color design 1 was normal ink the other adhesive. I go to press the foil on to the adhesive and the foil sticks to the other ink as well.
Any advice on how this is done? I used plastitol ink
You can use water based ink, it wont stick to the foil. If you are using plastisol ink there is a foil resist additive that you can mix in with your ink. You are better off using water based ink, the foil resist additive can be a bit spotty. Hope this helps.
The above information is correct, but FYI waterbase discharge is known for sticking to foil still. Usually this is because of the activator still reacting to the heat from the application of the foil.
There are things to minimize this, but overall I would avoid discharge and stick w/standard waterbase inks for foil jobs.

We have had great success printing foil with discharge. Discharge white posed our greatest problem. Adding some extra wetting agent seemed to keep the small pieces of foil from sticking to the white. If any does stick to the discharge ink, it can be rubbed off with a wadded up shirt.
