Default Emulsion Remover ate a hole through the container

Wow - has this happened to anyone else? I had an almost full gallon of CCI ER35 Emulsion remover on my particle board shelf. I grabbed some the other day and saw that where it was sitting the wood was starting to corrode. I was in a hurry so I just set the gallon on the concrete and figured I would get to the shelf later.

The next day I came back and the gallon was almost empty with the chemical dripping constantly out of the bottom. Get this: the concrete under it had a noticeable dip in it from the rest of the floor - it ate through plastic AND concrete.

Has this happened to anyone else?!? I won't ever reclaim without goggles again!

this has not happened to me with emulsion remover , it has however happened to me with haze remover...I have(or at least used to have) a plastic spray bottle that I fill up with haze remover.it was on my shelf for about a week when I noticed a wet spot under the shelf .....the haze remover ate a whole in the container and stained my garage floor.....gloves are a must when handling these chemicals.

Now hold on one minute, here.

Both Screen Reclaimers and Dehazers are packaged in HDPE containers for the reason that they won't dissolve them.

I'm a CCI distributor and had an instance of 2 gallons of ENVIROSTRIP (go figure) on the shelf
corrode the particle board from pinhole size leaks in the container bottoms.

I think that there was a marginally sealed batch of blow-molded HDPE jugs. Maybe from China?

If anyone ever has a leaking container of anything, try to temporarily stage it in an empty and clean gallon (or larger) ink bucket
and call who you bought it from for their suggested resolution. In certain cases, you might also want to consult your M.S.D.S.

We were given N/C jugs and labels in our instance, and would do the same for a customer.

Happy trails!

I filled a spray bottle with haze remover from the gallon it came in...so Im sure the spray bottle wasnt rated for this chemical.....I now have industrial grade spray bottles.

ya your supplier should be able to send you another one. But you would have to notice it before it got used. its probably to late for you now. but in the future inspect all product for proper seals when they are received. And always use industrial grade containers. your supplier will have those as well.

But I do think its cool that it ate through concrete. I might have to wear my mask a little more in the booth.

@tlbays: I kept it in the container it shipped in. I only put it in spray bottles when it is diluted and even then use industrial spray bottles. I agree it must have just been a bad container - it sure does show the strength of the stuff though!

It might be worth a phone call to silkscreeningsupplies.com - they were awesome when a gallon of ink arrived exploded. I'll keep you updated.

Ive never had a chemical leak from its original container. However, I have had printers pour other stuff into a container and got some nasty chemical reactions. Keep the chimstry pure and there shouldnt be any problems.

I just went and checked my Enviro-Strip, I had a full gallon that had about a third missing and was all over my shelving. I hadn't even opened it up yet, it still had tape across the lid from shipping. As soon as I picked it up, a stream of bubbles started coming in through a hole in the bottom of the container. I am going to contact CCI and inform them of the issue. (Obviously this is not an isolated incident.)

Most emulsion removers are mostly water with a little bleach. They will not eat through plastic bottles. Some plastic bottles just get through QC with weak spots in them.

Haze removers are another thing. Please...please do not put them in a bottle and mist them...ever...ever. You dont wan't that corrosive Drano to settle on your skin, eyes, or in your lungs. Best thing is not to use them. Wear goggles and a rubber apron if you must use it. If you totally dry your dual cure emulsions with a fan completely before exposure and after washout, you'll never need to use them. They eat holes through polyester mesh if left on too long...why not plastic bottles as well..who knows.

As a follow up, CCI replied to my email, asking for the batch number of the product and offered to replace the gallon. They were very prompt and professional. A model of great customer service.

I contacted my supplier (Ryonet) and they are sending me a new bottle. Must have been a bad batch.
