Has anyone had issues with the 1400 sucking in just half of the paper and causing it to crinkle up? I just bought some new R-film transparencies from Ryonet and every time it goes to load a sheet to print, it pulls in only the right side and jams, completely screwing up the film.
I know Ryonet's manufacturer recently switched the way they make R-film, and I never had this issue with the old version, but this new stuff just doesn't work with my 1400.
Ryonet offered a full refund which is commendable to say the least, but I can't imagine that the paper itself is really the issue, but rather how the printer is reading it.
If I load a normal sheet in at the same 13x19 size, it'll load fine.
Any thoughts? Is there a sensor somewhere that might be screwing up on my printer?

I had the same problem for a while. If you look at the bottom of the loading tray there are a couple white wheels that have a hook on them that is supposed to hold extra sheets of paper back. When I was loading films into the printer one side of the film was resting on top of the hook. You need to make sure that when you are loading the film the bottom of the sheet rests behind those white hooks. Unless something is wrong with your printer that should fix the problem. Look at the bottom of the paper tray when you are loading the film and you should see what im talking about.
Yes, you just have to be careful how you load it.
I use the same film with my R1800 and haven't had any problems.
It sort of sounds like the left side of your intake has some issue.
Maybe wipe it with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip...then try again.
Like with most computer related issues, you know it's probably some simple thing that makes you pull your hair out, but is some simple thing....... been there......screamed that.....
I think I figured it out - I took a look around the area you guys suggested and it looks like the paper is just too slippery. There is a rubber wheel that sucks the paper in on the right side, so it has enough traction to pull it thought, but on the left side it's just plastic rollers. I think that the plastic is slipping on the transparency paper, so it can't pull the paper on that side. The films came with alternating paper sheets of the same size, so I'm going to try to tape the paper sheet to the back of the film and see if that works.

The paper on the back didn't work, but I taped a half a sheet on the FRONT - and that worked until it reached the end of the paper. Then it started pulling the film sideways again. Looks like the film is just too slippery for the 1400, or my printer has an issue and something is out of adjustment enough that it works for normal paper but not film.
It sort of makes sense because the old transfer paper that I was using was textured on the print side (the front side) so the printer was able to grasp onto it like normal paper - this new paper is slick on both sides. Looks like I need to start shopping around for another type of film

That film does have a receptive side...a coarser side........that's weird yours doesn't.
Sounds like a fluke. Take Ryonet up on their offer and swap it out for a different box of film.
sounds like the manufacturer flubbed up and neither side is print receptive.
Mine (from Ryonet) definitely has a receptive, rough side....I really think you just got a bad box.

I might have - the tech from Ryonet said that the manufacturer changed the way they were making the films recently, I assumed that he meant that they weren't making them rough on one side anymore. I'll give them a call on Monday and see if I can get a confirmation from them that they're still supposed to be dual-sided and exchange it for another box if that's the case. If not, I guess I'll just return it and find another paper.

Just an update if anyone is following, they're sending me a new box to see if the box I was using was possibly mis-labled or just a defect.
