Default Films Not that Dark With Accurip

For the last few months, I've been printing with my Epson 1400 and replacement bulk inks from InkJetCarts.us. They are Hi Def, Anti UV, Epson Matched.

When I would print with Best Photo Settings, High Quality, etc, I got a reasonably dark film, but I usually would double the films to make sure no light got through.

I was sick of doubling films, so I got Accurip yesterday. My first print with the program was with the 720 x 720 DPI resolution and medium droplet weight. The film was unbelievably light.

So I cleaned my heads and did a nozzle check and tried to print again with same settings. Same result.

I upped the resolution to 1440 x 720 and heavy droplet weight. The print was dark, but not opaque. I printed another film with the settings I used to use; Premium Photo Paper Glossy and High Quality, etc, and the print was actually a little darker than the Accurip print with their darkest recommended settings (1440 x 720 and heavy).

Was I mistaken in thinking that Accurip would provide darker films than I could previously?

Well cancel the funeral, I think. I just printed again using Accurip, changing absolutely nothing. And now the ink is very thick, like I've never seen it. I can still see some light, but I'm lead to believe that it is because my inks are bulk replacements and not quite the real thing. I'm confused. Is my black cartridge up to no good?

We have accurip with an epson r1800 and we tried the bulk cartridges from some random website, I can't remember. We had been using the regular fastink dye-based ink cartridges for the last 3 years. We had terrible results, very similar to what your seeing with weak density films so we went back to the regular dye-based ink and with our waterproof inkjet film, everything is back to perfect.

Film doesn't always have to be that black to the eye. It's the uv blocking that really does the work. Ruby-lith is almost transparent, but it blocks uv light. If you don't have an issue burning your screens, I wouldn't give yourself a headache trying to get tar-black films- imho.
