Hi, Im have problem with the timing in my exposure unit.
I did few test burns to see what amount of time do I need for my emulsion but it doesn’t work can someone help me.
Im using the emulsion FUJIFILM Dirasol 25. DYL33.
I’m using 500 watt halogen light, I tried putting the light above my screen..about 18 - 24 inches away...coated the screen 1/1. I tried to burn it for 5 minutes, next try I tried 18 minutes and 30 minutes, it didn’t work. I don’t know what im doing wrong.
Below are the pictures of how my frame look like after the burn.
I have attached also the picture im trying to burn
It looks overexposed. Are you positives held tight against the screen with a vacuum unit or glass with weight on the other side? Are your positives really dark?
my positives are held tight with a glass, im burning it from above. I have a dark surface with black foam, then on top of it the frame, then my artwork printed on a film, then a sheet of glass on top of it. should i try less than 18 mins?
Even the first one exposed for 5 minutes didn't wash out so I would go less than 5 minutes. If your film positive is letting too much light through, you won't get a good exposure at any time. Try taping something completely opaque like a thin piece of cardboard to the screen when your are burning it and see if it washes out. If is doesn't wash out, it is probably the emulsion.
One option would be to buy/beg an exposure calculator from your ink/supplies distributor (Chromaline makes a really good one), or there might be some available for download that you can print onto your positives. These will come with very detailed instructions for their use.
A second option is the tried-and-true (though slightly less accurate) "step-and-repeat" method. Basically all this is get something like black construction paper. Lay the sheet on the glass, expose for something like 10 seconds, then fold (or cut) an inch or so of the paper, expose THE SAME SCREEN again for 10 more seconds (being very careful not to move the screen or the bottom edge of the paper), fold down another inch, expose 10 more seconds, etc. until you've got 8-10 exposures all on the same screen. Pick the best one and switch to 1-2 second intervals on a second screen. From there, it should be pretty easy to dial in with a test piece of artwork.
I changed the emulsion, and I tried less than 5 minutes, and it worked, its still not clear and some area didn’t burn, but I as read here from your answers guys m maybe the ink isn’t dark enough. Ill try changing the film as well J
