Default exposure time

I need help with exposure time I did the test where you move a piece of card board every 30 seconds I came up with like 9 minutes looking best but it kind of sounds to long. I was using a 500 watt halogen lamp on top the kind for a garage it was about 18 inch or so above the screen. I used a blue emulsion that was pre senitived. Any taker on this one?

What happened, did the stencil not turn out? What brand is the emulsion? I used to use Ulano QX-1 (which is also blue and pre-sensitized) and with a 500W halogen at ~26", it took 18 minutes to get to a solid 7 step.

Be sure to run a fan over the glass/positive to keep it cool when using a 500W. Also make sure the glass is removed from the light.

I don't know what a 7 step is I just made a stencil and moved the cardboard every 30 seconds so should I let it stay longer. 18 minutes sounds so long But i'm a rookie and have no experience.

If that is the time that worked for your test, try it. There is a fairly wide latitude of exposure that will still produce a useable screen, from very underexposed to slightly overexposed. You will experience problems with everything but the accurate number, but unless you are burning halftones or very fine details, you can probably make it work, and then fine tune from there.

Burn one of your designs and see how it washes out.

What are the benefits of removing the glass from the light?

I've only exposed one screen using the halogen and it seemed to work fine with the glass.

yes you can expose with the glass and get good results but the glass blocks some uv. taking the glass out can cut you expose time and give alil better details
