Default Halftones and thread count

I've been playing around with Gimp, seeing how good they are. Only thing is, I don't know how much detail you can have in a pic with the thread count of the screen I'm using - especially as it's a PhotoEZ standard They are 110t as far as the website says.

Now, I've done an image - going to put a link up as I'm certain it'll be oversize for the forum page and I hate to see superstretched forums Sif, Corn Goddess

Do you think this will work on an A4 110t screen or not? Basically, this is in negative ie this is what I'll be using to expose the screen for dark tees. With luck it should come out ok but I've never done halftones or anything and want to make sure I'm not erring too much the side of caution and pixelating too much but I don't want to end up with too much detail for the screen to handle.

Are you sure they're 110t? I ask because PhotoEZ is an American product, and that is a metric thread count.

110 is probably the most confusing mesh count number, because it's extremely common in both US and non-US screen printing. The most common mesh count for printing on textiles is 43t/110. If you see a 43 mesh count it's amost certainly going to be metric. But the most common mesh count for printing on paper and hard surfaces is around 110t/280. So 110 is a more ambiguous number.

110t isn't going to lay down much ink. It will hold a good resolution, but it might not give you enough ink deposit (since you're printing white on black). If you're using waterbased ink (which with the PhotoEZ is likely), it's going to dry out fairly rapidly. 110 is a standard textile screen, it won't hold as high a resolution but it will print just fine. While I think it could hold this image and print it, I am definitely no expert on printing half-tones.

The first step is to find out what the mesh count on your screen really is (it seems likely to me it's 110 and not 110t). Then someone can tell you whether to go ahead and use that screen or not.

Q: What is the thread count on the silk screen stencils?
A: Standard silk screen is 110 and HiRes silkscreen is 200.
That's the info from the site - I didn't know there were 2 systems so I probably put the wrong one What is the difference between the 2?

One is metric, the other "U.S. customary units" (Imperial in other words). Threads per centimetre vs. lines per inch.

So it's the same as the difference between one inch and 2.54 centimetres

The numbers quoted there are US mesh counts. 200 (77t) is what I personally would describe as a medium resolution mesh. 110 (43t) is the standard textile mesh used to print the majority of t-shirts. Most of the things you print will be on that (as for this specific image... I think it'll be okay, but I don't have the experience some of the other printers here do).
