I am printing discharge shirts. the mix is soo thin I am unable to do a flood stroke and leave the ink over my stencil in between prints as it just seeps through. it also leaves an uneven print on the shirts because of the seepage. by not getting that flood stroke in my screen is drying up very fast. very frustrating. I am using 230 mesh count screens which from what I've read should be about right for discharge. any suggestions? any way to thicken it up a little? thanks

I am using the ryonet discharge I believe. it came from silkscreeningsupplies.com. from what I can tell it's the only brand they offer.

I had been getting decent results with 110 mesh count but again I couldn't leave a flood stroke so it would dry up pretty fast. I had read that 230 mesh is better because you can leave a flood stroke over your image so as to prevent clogging but that is not working for me.

I have used the discharge ink from Ryonet with a 230 mesh screen and have not had an issue.....maybe you should call them and explain this to them and see if its bad discharge .........

so just to clarify with you, Inked apparel, you are able to use a flood stroke in between prints on 230 mesh with ryonet discharge? do you always use pc pigment or do you sometimes go with the straight natural discharge?

I currently am trying straight discharge with no color added and am wondering if maybe that is my problem, although the pc dyes are just as thin I don't really see how that would change much

I have used the discharge both ways....
alone and with pigment colors....
either way is fine for me...never had an issue with the discharge seeping through the screen on a 230 mesh with a flood stroke.....

That's weird. Are you putting alot of pressure when you flood the screen? We print discharge through anything from 110-200 without any problems. It sounds like yours is the consistency of water for it to be doing that.

this is frustrating. all I am doing is taking the discharge straight from the container. adding the agent at a roughly 8% ratio, stirring, letting it sit for 5-10 minutes and it's basically thin as actual water.

I have had this particular discharge for a few months. is it possible it can go bad? I would think if anything it would start to dry up with age as water evaporates. can anyone suggest something to thicken it? maybe let is sit in open air for a while?

Hi guys

That IS weird.

The Matsui DSPS, DSFP, and their new Brite Discharge Base are all relatively thin (designed that way for saturation)
but none should have a viscosity similar to water.

I'm not sure which one Ryonet sells.

It sounds like the products does discharge after proper cure, correct?

Austin4, there are thickners like Aerosil and Cabosil, but would mess with the ink penetration and add hand to the result.

At this stage, I'd like to know if it's so thin that it seeps in flood stroke through a 280-305?

If not, that approach may be more managable, than trying to evap the ink for flow purposes.

I'd guess that if you contact the supplier, they'll send you a testing replacement, considering the scope of this ongoing thread.
