Default RGB Color

Ok I have a quick question about RGB colors...In illustrator I get a purple color from:
R-80
G-0
B-191

So am I thinking correctly that if I take 191 units of blue and mix it with 80 units of red that it will give me the same purple??

Monitor colours are additive, you start with black and add colours to get your output - inks are subtractive, you start with white and filter colours out with inks.
In short -NO.

You need to be using CMYK color in regard to any printing using ink (CMYK=Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, blacK). Those ink colors combine to form (almost) all other colors. In Illustrator go to File>Document Color Mode> CMYK. That will give you the color breakdown. RGB refers to the color of light (computer screens, televisions etc).

What you do with that info in regard to what you're doing—I don't know. I'm new to the printing side of this, but I'd ask questions about 4-color printing.

4 color process is great if you are printing it. Yes the CMYK lay over each other to make all colors. BUT if you are trying to mix a spot color purple you may want to find the PMS number of the color you have and use their formula to mix it. Or just start with a red ink and add blue until it becomes the color you are looking for.
