Default Curing Ink with Heat Gun

Hi,

I am currently using speedball fabric ink, within the next couple of weeks I hope to be getting some plastisol inks. Anywho, my question involves curing ink with a heat gun. I know, its not the best way but its all I have and all I have money for, and besides, you need to start somewhere. I know that plastisol cures around 350 Fahrenheit (give or take depending on the type of ink from what i've heard), and the directions for speedball ink say the same temperature (using an iron). I don't have an iron with me (away at university) and want to use a heat gun for one of my last speedball shirts I plan on making.

My heat gun has two settings, 700 degrees Fahrenheit is the lower of the two. Is this too hot to use on the shirt? I know you are not supposed to over cure the shirts by getting them too hot. I also don't want to light it on fire or something...What if I just held the heat gun further away from the shirt? Anyone have any help or suggestions?

No, it's not too hot. In fact, the hotter your gun, the faster your cure. In other words, if you use your 700 setting, it might take 2 minutes of blowing air on your design to cure. But at your 950 setting, it would take less time, maybe 1 to 1/2 minutes.

Either setting, hold the gun 4 to 5 inches from the design and keep the gun moving constantly to prevent scorching.
