Default How do you Clean a Silk Screen Press?

Hi Folks,
Welp, after months of saving, weeks of waiting for a pickup truck to haul it all and the muscle power of some friends, my silkscreening gear is finally home. My goal is to be ready to print by Christmas. Between now and then I have lots to accomplish. First on my list is cleaning the presses. Both have a thick coating of spray mount and dust on them. Any advice on cleaning them? Can I use soap and water? A power washer? Crud Cutter? I know they're just gong to get gunky again but, I'd love to run my first job on clean machines. Any advice?

I'd get some press wash (which you are going to need anyway) and spray it down. Use paper towels or rags and maybe a plastic putty knife or scraper to get it clean.

I use press wash to clean TONS of stuff around the house anymore..

Agree with Midwaste.

Use press wash, and lots of paper towels. I wouldn't use a power washer just because you just run the risk of rusting stuff.

Press wash will remove plastisol ink, spray adhesive, and most messes that you will encounter on a press. I cleaned mine thoroughly when I first got it (wasn't that bad), but then went a step farther.

I hit all of the powder coated surfaces with turtle wax polishing compound, then waxed them. While it won't last forever it will help keep the dust off, and make it easier to clean up. I'm pretty sure press wash will cut right through the wax but the polishing compound leaves everything super smooth.

A little neurotic perhaps, but a well kept machine will sell easier when you upgrade

I would sand that thing while you're at it, prime, then paint it something a little more bright, lime green or electric blue? The brown harco is kind of depressing.

Becareful when you use press wash, press wash can take off the paint.
