Default Difference in Tension Meters

I need to get one, but don't understand the differences. I see them as low as $275 (surlock) up to over $400. Will the $275 one work for me?

It will work just fine. As long as you can zero it out on a piece of glass and it gives consistent readings it will be fine. Everything I've ever purchased from Shur-Loc has been very high quality, no reason to think otherwise about the meter. Absolute accuracy is not as important as repeatability. If you find your screens work well at a setting of 40 on your meter, then set them at 40 on your meter. What you are after is a repeatable metric so you can eliminate a variable from the equation. I'd vote for save the few bucks on the meter and use it for a few more frames. (Or whatever is next on your shopping list)

What you want is one that is accurate and has the ability to be calibrated every few years. Call them and ask about re-calibration as some lower end meters can't be adjusted. If this meter has that for $275, then get it.
