Printer: Epson 1400 Computer: Apple Macbook Pro Mac OS X Leopard
Films come out terribly light and grainy or striped
I have read multiple threads regarding this same issue and I have come across one issue that I can not seem to resolve. I tried printing my films in different programs and did more head cleaning and nozzle checks than should be humanly allowed but I have not been able to locate and or change the settings as everyone is stating in their posts. I dont have the same dialogue boxes for print settings in Ai or Photoshop as I do in MS Word. I am getting a terrible film print and they are def not opaque enough to burn a screen.
Does anyone know how/where to access the printer driver dialogue box on a mac so I can customize settings to get a better film positive print out of Ai or PS?
Thank you for your time in Advance

2 things I can think of... you may be using dye ink, pigment is more preferable in printing films or the epson may be using CMY to print black images/graphics (and not with the use of the black ink).
I believe your right about CMY and I can not change the print to RGB, even when chnging it to RGB it is over-ridden by whatever settings i cant access, I basically need to access the Printer Driver dialogue box and I cant, Any other ideas? Anybody?!

Trying to change to print in RGB is impossible. RGB can only be displayed on screen. What I believe jsf was saying is, try printing in grayscale, using only the black ink.
I, too, have a 1400 and I always get the best results when printing grayscale with photo rpm quality on one of the ultra glossy photo paper settings.

Try and change the sttings before printing up the black. I print greysacale. Striped means the heads need a clean. I will let you on a secret. Canon use black pigment inks. Earlier models under $100 use ink cartridges that cost about $2 each. just make sure its US ink. Dont tell anyone
this is awesome information but maybe I didnt ask my question correctly, what program are you guys priting your docs from? I am using Illustrator and photoshop and I am not able to change the settings to best photo and glossy paper. my advanced setting window only has high/med/low res and overprints.

In Illustrator:
Step 1:
File>Print
Step 2:
When the print dialogue pops up, click the button that says, "Printer..." at the bottom of the page
Step 3:
Click the drop-down menu in the center of the new printer dialogue and select "Print Settings"
Step 4:
Change media type to "Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy" and Color to "Grayscale", Mode to "Advanced" and Print Quality to "Photo RPM" and make sure "high speed" is unchecked.
Step 5:
Print.

Step 3 my dialogue box says printer and presests only. presets only has standard and last used settings and there is no area to proceed to step 4.
Anybody know whats going on?
Obviously I am not getting the same Dialogue Box as you, anyway to change the dialogue box that comes up?

Do you have the latest drivers for the 1400 installed? The "Printer..." button brings you to the printer's driver controls, so if you don't have the latest updates you might not have all the features.
Thanks for everyones help I still have no idea why my computer doesnt have the same settings but my business partner has a newer version of the same computer and I am now able to print quality films! temporary fix until i figure out what is going on with my comp
thanks again!
