Sooo, I'm having some troubles with something and I can't put my finger on it. VERY frustrating because I'm trying to do my first half tone screen and it's coming out like **** every time..
Besides that, I was just wondering about my exposure unit? A friend gave it to me about to weeks ago and I fixed it up so that it has 10 UV lights about 4" away from the glass.
it originally came with halogen light at the bottom and two UV lights on the side.. and two fluorescent lights..
What are the fluorescent lights used for exactly??
Exposing or looking at my project??
The fluorescent lights are for illuminating the table for a variety of light requiring functions. IN essence you can use it to help clean the glass and be sure it is free of anything that would block the light on your screen. Also you may use it to assist you in lining up your artwork PRE-exposure. You can also use it to help you find pinholes POST-exposure.
I hope that helps. If you are concerned about exposing the screens you can get a material called amberlith or rubylith to block out the UV. Regular flourescent Bulbs output extremely low amounts of UV and will not affect your unexposed emulision if used for short periods of time.
I found out the problem with the screens looking like sh*t. I just wasn't exposing them long enough I guess... :/ witch is really lame because I should be exposing them way faster than 15 minutes..
right now I've been exposing white 86-156 mesh screens with 50 and 38 micron films.. I thought film was supposed to expose faster than emulsion?? or am I wrong?? Because when I was exposing emulsion I could Expose it extremely fast.. like at about 3 - 4 minutes.
any insight on whats going on??
Oh and thanks for shedding some light on the fluorescent bulb question, I was just really curious.. I'll probably pick up some of that amberlith or rubylith UV block. I'm really protective when it comes to light on my emulsion/film.

So wait, it was a single point light unit and you modded it to have a bank of 10 fluorescent UV tubes 4" away from the glass? Is that correct?
Is it a brand name vacuum blanket unit or a home made job?
