Default Metal Halide DIY exposure unit - dimensions?

I'm building a DIY exposure unit w/ a 1000 watt metal halide bulb at the moment, am really just gathering supplies and drawing out my plans at this point. I've learned a ton from hours crawling through the forum, thanks to everyone for posting pictures and info throughout the process, I will do the same once I am up and running.

Question for the DIY metal halide veterans out there. Any recommendations for overall dimensions of the unit? I seem to recall reading that metal halide bulbs needed to be placed further from the glass than the black lights. A nice set of plans I saw for a blacklight unit had the overall dimensions at 24 x 29, with 7" between the bulbs and the glass. I also recall another post saying something like the distance between the bulb and the glass for metal halide should be 85% of the screen's diagonal measurement.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks,
JM

I am in the process of building one as well. I haven’t finalized the distance between the bulb and the screens yet because I can’t find a definitive answer. This guy says it should equal the full diagonal measurement of the screen.

It shouldn't be too difficult to make a few adjustments on the light distance. . . looks like maybe everyone is tired of DIY exposure unit threads :-) I'll post full details of mine once it's up and running.

I'm building one too after I'm done with my screen wash tub.

Thanks, atong. Good luck on the build :-)

Post some pics of your washout booth when you're done, we seem to be working in reverse order of each other. . . that's next on my list.
