Discuss the different types of equipment needed for screen printing. Topics include manual screen printing presses, automatic presses, dryers, folding machines, starter kits and high end machines.
When I coat my mesh screens with the emulsion, it never covers the entire mesh. I assume this is normal. It's just the sides that are uncoated. Anyways, I have been covering the uncoated parts with duct tape so the inks don't get printed on my t-shirts.
This duct tape I've been using is that brown shiny kind... Oh, some people call it "brown packing tape."
Here's a picture:
Now, this tape doesn't last very long because after I've done my print and wash the leftover inks from the screen frame, the tape gets wet and naturally loses a bit of it's stickiness.
So my question is, what sort of tape do most people use?
Brown packing tape. It's cheap, so it doesn't really matter if you need to replace it between print runs. Though if you use better quality stuff it will normally survive the washouts anyway (it might come up a bit from the water - just pat it down and as it dries it will re-attach).
The low adhesive tape silkscreeningsupplies sells is the best I've ever used. stripping it down is simple, it doesnt come apart, and it leaves no sticky residue.
