Discuss the different types of equipment needed for screen printing. Topics include manual screen printing presses, automatic presses, dryers, folding machines, starter kits and high end machines.
Good morning all.....well it's morning in my time zone anyway. I think I may have hit the jackpot and would like a little bit of advice from you all if you have any.
I have come across a small business for sale and am interested in purchasing it. i would like to know what anyone thinks of the equipment included.
1x Carousel 4 station 4 color with 4 std. palettes
2x Black flash infra red flash dryers with steel stands 220v
1x set of exposure lights
6x extra palettes zip jacket, sleeves
23x silk screens 43 mesh and 60 mesh
10x squeegees aluminum handles new rubber, variety of sizes
variety of inks and emulsions, cleaning chemicals.
Now, I went to see the carousel and it is a bit rusted and I do not know what make it is nor can the owner seem to tell me, what I do know is that it works. Is the rust a problem? Would I need to service the carousel and would I need to purchase spare parts for it, If I do I would obviously need to know what make it is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I would not worry so much about the rust, unless it is severe, a lick of paint will cure it. I'd look at to see if it spins well, or is it stiff, are the palets wraped or level, and check if the registration is true.
I'm sure other more qualified printers will give you better advise on your questions.
Are those the mess sizes? Not a screen printer myself but aren't those messes hard to get tight registration without bleeding one color into the next and what about the "pixilation" or blocky edges to the prints. If the price is right and you won't need tight registration then its just a MAYBE. If you need good, tight, multi colored prints, I would get the owner to run a few pieces through to see it work. You would probably need to carry your own screens to get the demo but you should do that anyway to be sure the any registration problems aren't from the screens being poorly setup. If you know a printer that is in business, borrow some screens he/she has already used before reclaimimg them. Just be sure the work from said screens is as good as you think you'll need to produce. Good luck.

I don't know if you hit the jackpot or not. Depends on what they are asking for the equipment. Post pictures and we may be able to help you identify who the manufacturer of the press is. Make sure that it spins freely and that the platens aren't warped either.
Who makes the flash units also?
You'll need to get other screens in addition to the ones you buy. 43 and 60 mesh is a little low unless you are doing metallics and glitters.
Depending on what they are charging it may or may not be a good deal.
Thats not a great deal, unless the rotary press happens to be a good one (M+R or something similar).
You could almost get all that brand new for around US$3500, with maybe the exception of the screens, which may be junk anyway.
T5his might be true if Marisa lived in the USA, however she's in SA.
If she had to import all this stuff from the US the cost of the freight plus any custom duty and other local taxes she might have to pay would most certainly triple her cost.
One must also take into consideration the amount of ink being sold it could be a few cans or quite a few.
My suggestion would be to check the prices of this equipment with a SA dealer and then act accordingly
Thank you so much for the advice, it is so difficult finding equipment at the bottom of the earth, when you find a whole set up like this it seems like you are hitting the jackpot. I am going to try and track down some more info.
