which printer would be suit my needs for printing films?
which printer would be suit my needs for printing films?
Okay....here we go. I have practically everything I need to start printing BUT I need to purchase a printer..now I have read many, many, many threads on which printer to go with etc...but this is where i'm at....I have my artist make my designs for me (he is real cheap) and then I have people like 24hourartwork.com separate my colors for me. For example the design I have attached...they break it down for me whether I need half tones or not...anyways...my artist can take this ONE sheet of the breakdown and send me separate files for each film positive I need ( I have to go this route until I can get the money for my own programs and such) so question: when my artist sends it back to me which printer would be suit my needs??? I have heard tons about the Epson 1400 but is that the Epson 1400 black max or the 300.00 one I can get off of amazon that is the Epson Stylus 1400???
I'm so confused guys..
I have quite of few clients who do designs like the one I have attached with 7 to 8 colors and that require a couple of flashes and half tones and such but I also have alot of clients who just do one color jobs.....I have been out sourcing my printing for way too long and I'm tired of throwing money out the window....
You great ones out there I know will give me the correct answer...
re: which printer would be suit my needs for printing films?
for your epson 1400 question, you will be fine with the Epson Stylus 1400 (the $300 one)
we use this printer with the stock ink and it gives us great film, using the folowing settings:
go to preferences
select best photo
select ultra premium glossy photo paper

They have refillable cartridges so that won't be a problem you can put any ink you want in them. *** They cost about 25.00 for the refillable set. You want blank refillable cartridges so you can put your ink in them. many of them come filled with dye ink.
I know very little about the specific ink Black magic my business is concentrated on Heat Transfers.

Can I buy black max ink from them also and install them in 1400?? so I do not have to run out of black in so fast with only have one cartridge??
I found a 1400 for 143.00 RIGHT NOW and I'm about to order it as soon as you guy answer these last two questions...
yes, run waterproof transparancies with the stock ink.
and no you can't use all black ink carts in this printer (unless its the blackmax) the carts are chipped and have molded guides on the cart so you can only put the cyan in the cyan slot...etc.
but really, with the stock ink, just buy a few extra black carts, and the colored carts will last you a long time, nice black films every time, no need for all black ink.

Epson 1400, go to amazon.com, its selling at 179 plus shipping ends around 200. and its not refurbished.
for your ink, unless you want to use this for heat press as well, which the 1400 is great for (using the claria inks and jpss) you can buy screen printing ink that inkjetcarts makes. which should work great.

I paid that same price at epson.com. Is that where you are looking, too? If so, I just wanted to mention I have bought 5 re-furb printers from them, and run 4 of them, and have no problems what-so-ever with any of my machines.
I have so many because sometimes I pick up the c120's for the ink supply. It's cheaper to buy the c120 at $31.xx than the whole set of ink anywhere else. I just pop the printer into the attic.
I do have the 1400, and it prints really nice. Good luck with yours. Hope it works out well for you, too. =)
