Default is a heat transfer machine the same as a heat press?

Im sure this is a newb question but maybe it is because i am new. I am searching the craigslist for screen printing stuff and there is an ad for a 16x20 HEAT TRANSFER MACHINE. the owner used it for pressing GOLD SEAL dark and light inkjet transfer paper. I just recently picked up some wilflex plastoil ink and it needs to be pressed to set correctly. I asked the seller for the make and model and he replied saying the make is "american and the model is 16x20"

The term used in this section of the message board is 'HEAT PRESS', is that the same thing as a 'HEAT TRANSFER' machine?

Will a heat transfer machine act differntly when setting ink? or are the terms HEAT PRESS and HEAT TRANSFER synonyms?

Thanks in advance.

Don't accept "the make is american". Ask him to look for a "made in " sticker or stamp and a brand name. A few people think a uscutter is a brand (they are a dealer) and would say their cutters are american made. Not, but the graphtec is as good as any that I've done any research on. Also, not all people are honest when it come to selling things used(think used car dealer). Good luck.

Honestly, that doesn't look like an american made press to me, but who knows it could be one of the old ones.

Yes! It is an American Heat Press! I have one myself and honestly 140 is a very nice price. I paid like 80 bucks just on the thermometer because it went out. Yes, it is old maybe older than 10 yrs old but it gets the job done. Mines was passed down to me by my dad. Hope my advice helped.

i am not sure but i can take a picture of mines. it is the same exact one. i know my dad use to have a gift shop about 12 yrs ago. i use mines to make shirts. you can send the picture to a company and they can help you with any parts if needed. it gets the job done , especially if you cant afford a modern style one..

thanks kaos112!
I feel a bit better knowing that it isnt a bad price or bad brand. This is more of a hobby turning into possibly a side job so i really cant afford a modern $500+ 16x20 heat press. Thanks a lot guys.

I would have to agree that it is an american made heat press... i have seen them in customers t-shirt shops... Most of the one's i have seen are swingers though... but it looks just like it... If it's local to you... have them crank it up and bring along a infrared thermometer and see if it holds the temp and that there are no huge temp differences on the heat platen.
