HI, I made a washout booth out of a wood frame, showerboard, and "Liquid Nails" Caulk. It worked good for 2 weeks but i guess the Liquid Nails stuff doesn't hold up too good to the chemicals and stuff because it started leaking. What should i use to re seal it so that wont break down again? Thanks!
There's a tar like substance that is used to seal shower stalls. Maybe go to Home Depot, Lowes or similar and ask them if it would stand the chemicals. Another idea is to use pond liner material.
good luck!
I'll do some more thinking on the subject and see if I can come up with anthing else.
Try NP 1. It's an industrial caulk/ sealant that's urethane based and elastomeric made by Sonolastic. Costs about $5 a tube and is the best caulk available. Sticks to almost anything when applied (except soapy water) and impervious to almost everything when dry.
I got some 3' 90 degree air ducts from the supply store for 5 bucks each and i couldn't find that NP caulk so i got some caulk that's made for bathtubs. I had to cut some of the edges off the ducts...kinda time consuming without metal cutters useing a dremel. Reinforced blades for the dremel, the other ones will fly off and hit you in the eye. There's no way that this sink is gonna break now. LoL. The flourescent light i have is stupid. Only one light on it wants to work at a time ever...dunno why. Soon i'm building an exposure unit. With a Metal Halide....i think it's called.
The Caulk was Still Leaking. The best way to do it is caulk it a little bit, Sand it down good and use Fiberglass Resin over everything. That stuff really works. Dont waste your time with so much caulk like i did.
the best long term solution is fiberglass. you can buy the fixins' at any home center or even wallmart. it's basically like painting it on. the trick is to get the mat into the corners, i've always used quarter round (shoe molding) then glass over it. use as many coats as it takes to stop the leaking.

yeah, that's what i figured out already last week. Too bad i didn't know about this stuff months ago when i first built it. Would've saved me a lot of trouble...That stuff is awesome though.
when you build your exposure unit using a metal halide bulb make sure you vent it..I placed a small desk top fan from wal-mart on one side and a vent guard across from the fan, also i have my fan on 1 switch and my light on another..FYI a vacuum top is key..."pond liner and a small shop vac do the trick.
