Discuss the different types of equipment needed for screen printing. Topics include manual screen printing presses, automatic presses, dryers, folding machines, starter kits and high end machines.
I've been screen printing for a while but just started getting my own equipment. I've been looking at conveyor dryers on silkscreeningsupplies.com but i've had personal exp. with one of there cheapest conveyor dryers and it doesn't work that great. I was wondering if there is any other alternatives.... i also checked out the site sponsors and saw equipment zone, has any body ever used them?
I've got a 5ft conveyor dryer that Ryonet sells, or used to sell, that works just fine.
It's a Logos. 20" wide belt. Yes, not real fast, but, then again, for a one person shop, it works just fine for me. I do a lot of semi process with 4-7 screens, usually, so the pace of the dryer works out fine.
And when I'm doing something 1 or 2 color distressed that requires less dwell time to reach 320 degrees, you can speed it up.
The only thing I have experienced and, thankfully, resolved, was that you don't want to crank up the temp dial to max or near max when you first turn it on...........it develops heat better if you first put it to a mid range temp, then turn it up after 20 mins or so....
We are currently using the EconoLine 6100 from silkscreeningsupplies.com. 24" wide belt and 8 ft long. It is cheap, yet efficiently serves its purpose. I would recommend getting the temperature control added on for the additional cost of a couple hundred... it will definitely help.
Thanks guys im very familiar with silkscreening supplies and don't get me wrong there great... i just wanted to see if there was anywhere else anyone gets dryers for a solid price or a brand that makes a fair priced model
I'd be inclined to look for something like a used Little Buddy, or even one of the orange CAPS dryers from a few years back, which were even better. I've got one, and the ones from the original manufacturer had nice greaseable pillow blocks for the rollers instead of nylon blocks with a hole drilled in them, and the controls are on the side and below the heated area eliminating heat related problems with the controls as will sometimes happen when the controls are on top of the dryer. Watch Ebay or craigslist. If you buy used, buy locally, or something you can drive to to see in action before parting with your money.
With the recession, there's some good used stuff coming on the market from shops that are going under or are selling superfluous equipment.
