Default Problem while printing film positive

I have a Epson 1280. Printing some film positives. Say i got a 1 st (repersenting 1st place. It's all going to be red, but the 1 prints out dark, but the st prints out light. Now the 1 and ST is the same pantone color. What casues this and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm not sure I understand the question. The films should be printed in black only - are you saying one is printing lighter than the other on the films?

are you printing from a rip?
if you are ...check your artwork....the "st" might not be 100% and the rip will screen this so it wont look as dark as the "1"
just a thought

I am not printing with RIP software. To my understanding the printer I have will print the basic letters and such. Everything comes out black enough but one letter will not print out like the rest of the artwork. It prints out like a light shade.

It's possible it's in the art work. is this a vector design? possibly the 'st' has an effect on it or is not 100% opaque.

There is also a chance that the lighter on is a shade of a color and the printer is printing a percentage. Make sure the color is 100%.
