Hello. My gas dryer will be arriving next week, and it is now time to set up my gas source. My vendor suggested that I use three 50kg LPG tank in series and have a reserve of another three tanks. He said that a single tank doesn't have enough pressure to empty the tank, thereby rendering higher consumption. I want to use one tank at a time as I don't want too many highly flammable tanks stored in our compound. Is there truth to what my vendor said? By the way, my unit is an Adelco JF100-3XS.
It has the following tech specs:
1. Ave. Gas Consumption @180ºC = 68,000 BTU (20kw)
2. Max Gas Consumption = 36000 BTU (36kw)
3. Gas Pressure Input = 10º W. G/25mbar
Frankly, I don't know what the above specs meant. Any input will be highly appreciated. I'm meeting with the gas dealer tomorrow.
Where are you located? We are in the US and have an Adelco dryer. It came to us fitted for propane (what they use in the UK I assume). We modified a coupler to tap it into our natural gas line which is what is used here in the states. There were very specific requirements laid out by the manufacturer as to the size of the pipe used to get the gas into our unit, the BTU's and whatnot. These things need to be adhered to pretty closely in order to get support from the manufacturer and for the warranty to be effective. I know that we had the option to install a large propane tank OUTSIDE our facility, then hire one of those services that comes by and checks it out and fills it up once a week or however often it was needed, but we opted to go for natural gas. Not sure what the legal issues are where you are, but here if we went with propane, it had to be outside, it could not have legally or safely been inside...
I guess it's all dependent on where you are located, but who is selling you this dryer?
Hi Dan, I'm operating from Manila, Philippines. Our only option here is to purchase LPG (i think it's a combination of Propane and Butane) contained in tanks. My tanks will be situated outside the facility - but within our property compound. The tanks will be placed in an open-space location. From the tanks' location, we need to bore a hole through the shop's wall to enable pipe connection to the dryer.
I'm a bit concerned about 6 large gas cylinders placed side by side sitting within our compound. Can anyone with experience/technical knowledge please share your thoughts about using single cylinder tank to run the dryer?
We were issued necessary permits by the city, including clearance from fire department based on the proposed design of 6 cylinders placed in tandem, subject to physical inspection upon installation of the gas.
We purchased from Adelco's exclusive distributor here in our country. It's a brand new unit.
What your LP distributor told you is true, LP tanks lose gas "density" as the total content of the tank goes down, although the tank would have to be very low to notice this.
You can run a single tank if it makes you feel better, but plan to have issues with sporadic heat/drying if you let the tank run low. It makes sense to have a redundant parallel system for your gas supply.

Hi,
My name is Cesar Sy of Lableman Inc. We just completed installation of an Adelco Gas Dryer JF-100. Our LPG gas setup consists of 2 units of 50kgs tanks installed in parallel. Although our experience is limited (5 weeks of operation using the gas dryer), we have a learned a lot over the past 5 weeks. Problems encountered are not related to the LPG tanks. We are quite satisfied with the setup. It is the other problems that we have been struggling with.
If you need to contact me, please call 925-3610 or 925-3614. I would be glad to share some info with you.
If you are worried from a fire hazard point of view just make sure it is in a low traffic area. An area where people or vehicles do not go. Make sure there is nothing around the tanks that could catch on fire (ie---grass or trash). Tanks will not self explode without a reason. An that is usually a man made cause. No smoking in the area and a system to keep them from falling over, and you should be fine. I work for the fire department and find we have very few problems with propane tanks. They will self vent when overpressured, but that is a safety feature to them.
