Well I just picked up an Epson R1400 printer and plan on doing the Pigment CIS for it. My question is, is there a way to replace one of the pigments like the extra magenta with white? That way I can do whites on a dark shirt or should I have gone with another printer?
You will probably have to buy ink for a DTG printer to get white ink. Expect problems with clogs white has lost more solids in it that any other ink.
You will also need rip software. You can download a trial version of multi-rip for free but it puts their watermark on everything. Rip software is not cheap. If you can find the white ink send me a pm
From what I have heard, There was only one printer that could print with white ink, and this printer was called Alps. However it seems that for some reason it has disappeared from the market.
the alps was a ribbon printer like the gerber but the ribbons were only 1/2 inch wide, i had one 13 years ago, printed very nice photos but was expensive... they made a cheaper model but it did not catch on for the consumer mkt. they quit a couple years ago.... i have the 1400 and do contour cutting, for my market its working great.
It sounds like you are trying to do what all the dinkjet to garment printers are doing, but on the cheap. (I could be wrong.)
The problem is that even if you got a white ink, it is completely different ink and it does tend to clog if not propely maintained. Those DTG printers are expensive for a reason and the RIP software is a big part of that.
You might want to contact Equipment Zone (www.equipmentzone.com) to see if they sell their RIP stand alone or if they can offer any advise.
