1). epson 1400 converted for pigment ink use vs. the epson r1900, whats the big difference??? 2). once the 1400 is converted to pigment ink use can it be switched back over to dye ink or preferrably sublimation ink??? and 3). when converting the 1400 over to pigment ink do you have to use a cis(bulk system) or can you use refillable ink cartriges???

1900 is a 7 color plus 1 GLOP printer.
1400 is a 6 color printer. You will see the gamut difference obviously.

Yes, you can change between different inksets, just make sure you purge all the inks out of channels.

check with InkRepublic.com for 1400 or R1900 Cis , bulk system. Their systems have very few issues and have been performing perfectly with their own dye and pigment inks and sawgrass sublimation inks.

I have the R1900 and yes the 8th color is a clear gloss used for photo printing.
Color Gamut
"In color reproduction, including computer graphics and photography, the gamut, or color gamut (pronounced /ˈɡæmət/), is a certain complete subset of colors. The most common usage refers to the subset of colors which can be accurately represented in a given circumstance, such as within a given color space or by a certain output device. Another sense, less frequently used but not less correct, refers to the complete set of colors found within an image at a given time. In this context, digitizing a photograph, converting a digitized image to a different color space, or outputting it to a given medium using a certain output device generally alters its gamut, in the sense that some of the colors in the original are lost in the process."

so, is the color gamut something like the cmyk, rgb color scheme thing i been hearing about? also i heard that the only difference between the epson 1400 converted over to pigment and the r1900 is the price of the r1900 and the additional two colors. i also heard that as far as the addiitional colors when printing t-shirts you wont even be able to tell the difference, so if this is true im wondering whats the big difference? looking forward to purchase my printer for t-shirt production. was really leaning toward the r1900, but now seriously considering the 1400....

The premium price of the R1900 is not only because of the G.O. and some extended color rendition.
The head of the R1900 is the same head you find in the professional 3800, 4800, 4880 and the corresponding plotters. It has double the nozzles of the 1400 and as a spare part, it costs as much as a 1400 printer.
It is much more a "tool" than a 1400 (that is also a great printer).
It is also much faster.

have someone actually tried using a refillable carts on r1900?what is the best pigment ink you can use with it?im sure the one's on ebay arent the best out there.

best refillable 1400 or r1900 cart? I would consider the one that can let you refill and reset ink level without taking the whole cart out but refilling in place for example on top of the cartridge.

i mean which pigment ink is teh best for these printers(aftermarket ones such as inkjetcart,inkjetfly etc..
i tried asking oen of the inkjetcart.us reps and mentioned that workforce is a pigment based printer to consider and 1400 and 1900 arent fit for heat transfer tasks as 1400 might change or may lack on color gamut since it is a dye based printer here is what she said..

so if you must use the printer for dual usage you should get our standard pigment ink kits.
you'll have occsional issues with the pure yellow pigment. the higher the concentration the more color shift after pressing.
this is why we recommend dedicating printers to transfer applications.
if you have been pressing with the factory epson cartridges, our standard pigment inks are matched to theirs and you'll have the same performance as epson with photos on RC media or on heat transfers. If you've had troubles with greeening and muddy colors you'll have the same issue with our standard pigments as their inks and you should consider dedicating to the heat transfer pigments.
for the our heat transfer inks we change the photo black to a high density matte black and comes with two bottles of Matte Black (r1900) which you load in both black channels (so you'll get high density blacks even if you make a mistake and fire the print as a photo paper print). The kit also substitutes the standard yellow pigment for the Heat Transfer yellow pigment.
this would hold true for any printer you plan to use for heat transfer (substituting pk for mk and a yellow ink change).
now in terms of an epson wf1100 for example, this printer already comes equipped with a high density matte black (no photo black in the durabrite ultra inks) so the only ink change would be the yellow pigment to a heat transfer yellow.
now in terms of the sp1400 this printer is a photo dye ink printer and there are no pigment inks on the entire aftermarket that directly match these colors. So we run the Epson Pro 4000 pigments in it and provide an icc profile to balance color.
the sp1400 is not a very good printer for HT work and you will lose color gamut (possible range of colors) by using pigments in this printer.
Our suggestion for you would be to;
1) put a standard damper cart system with AUV inks in the sp1400 and have some really good looking photos and the printer
basically left alone except for refilling it to save money. use this printer as your everyday printer.
2) add an epson workforce 1100 13x19 pigment ink printer for your heat transfer work, about $150.00 directly from epson
3) put a standard damper cart system with standard pigments in the R1900 (great looking photos , whenever you wish and OEM matched inks.) use this printer for your archival rated photos, pigments will last 200 years on photo papers.
it sounds like it does make sense but how come people here are using 1400 and 1900 with contentment?
