Epson 1400 is designed for dye inks. The 2000 and R1900 have more colors and were designed to print with pigment ink.

Epson inkjet printers are not manufactured for sublimation ink. Users made adaptations so they can be used for sublimation. You can get discounted factory refurbished printers from Epsonstore.com at a fraction of the cost for brand new printer. It also has factory warranty to go with the printer. You just got to keep checking what is in the clearance page.

I just saw one 1400 for $179.00 here: Clearance Epson Ink Jet Printers - Epson Clearance Center - Epson America, Inc. including free shipping.

Look for an Epson 1800.
It's a GREAT printer, when combined with a pigment bulk ink system, and much cheaper than the new 1900.

I agree with Luis and the 1400. I have one with refill carts loaded with Heat Transfer pigment ink and it works fine.

I have the R1900 myself. I love that it can print 13" wide, but I can also put in a roll of transfer paper so I can fit graphics in tight with less waste. I spent more upfront, but was confident that I wouldn't have to upgrade for a long time.

Buy what will work best for you. Most commonly used on this forum are the 1400 and 1800. Both are excellent.

It was really hard at first to get the colors to come out right with my R1900, but David got me straightened out and I haven't had a problem since.

I have a 1400. You can set it up to print dye, pigment or sublimation inks. You can print on regular paper, photo paper, transfer papers or print films for screen printing on it.

Depending on what you want to print, people can recommend what to get to setup a 1400 to do what you want.

oh,ok. thats real cool, but if i did want to use sublimation ink would it be complicated to make the adaption or is it as simple as purchasing the sublimation ink...

It can be that simple almost. You can buy sublimation ink cartridges for the 1400 just like the ones that come with it, sublimation transfer paper, and a heat press the size you need and you are just about ready to sublimate.

You will need the correct printer color profile to go with the ink, paper and printer you use from the ink manufacturer. If you don't have that your colors will be off.

Most screen suppliers will sell some kind of output film, i have a 1400 and use silkjet for dye inks and seems to work wonderfully.
