Default Self-Resetting chips anyone?

Ok the nightmare continues!
I have just fitted a set of refillable carts to my Epson SX105, 4 colours (CMYK). Spent the whole day yesterday trying to purge the air out, went home with filthy hands and blue fingernails
Today I fire up the machine and all appears well, looks like the air may have self-purged overnight
Now these cartridges are meant to be fitted with self-resseting chips but the ink levels are dropping with use and I have even had the 'out of ink' message displayed
So I then go into the 'change a cartridge' facility, remove the cartridge, refill it with ink and pop it back into the machine, guess what? More air!
I thought that after the initial fill I was going to be able to refill the carts in situ? If I could refill the carts in situ surely this would avoid introducing more air problems. Bt I need to remove the cartridges to reset the chips

Help!
Phil

Bumpy, Bumpy! Sorry but I could use help on this guys.
Ink is running low, how do I reset these chips without removing the carts?

Here's a guess -
The cartridges are chipped and the printer assumes that they are removed when it can't see the chip?
Slide a thin piece of polyester film between the cartridge & the housing if you can, it should think that it's a new one?????????

Cunning Dave! I will give it a try, gonna be tricky though as all 4 carts are in a housing. I will post back with results!

No joy! Clever guys at Epson, the carts are designed so the securing clips prevent you from getting behind them!
So I removed all the carts & topped them up with ink and replaced them. Sure enough, check the ink levels within Epsons utility and none of 'em are full To make matters worse I now have air problems again! If I leave it alone it will probably be ok again in the morning! Nightmare!
I'm starting to feel an unresistable pull towards a laser printer Smile Phillip smile!

Hey there Funky,

Can you just keep printing even though the printer says it's low? I had a similar problem with my 1400, but when I installed the refillable carts, the instructions said to disregard what the screen said as to the amount of ink left. It's just important to know how much you can print without running out. You have to keep track of how much ink you use and print and fill accordingly. Ironically, the printer now seems to have accepted the new carts and lets me know how much I have left! Good Luck, Neil

Thanks Neil, that didn't work with my Epson SX105. I was half-way through printing an image when the software told my printer that it was out of ink, printing stopped and it threw my transfer paper out! I checked the cartridges and they were all three-quarters full! I then went into the 'replace cartridge facility', removed all the carts and filled them to the brim. I replaced the carts and the facility then told me I had only replaced the black
I've now purchased a colour laser printer the thread is here:Inkjet vs Laser Transfers. Any real advantages?
