Discuss the different brands, makes and models of printers used to print inkjet and laser heat transfers. Also includes information on the inks that can be used to make your own transfers.
I'd like recommendations for a printer in the $300 price range.
I'm not sure what kind exactly but the paper i'm interested in printing on is the flexible kind in this video:
If anyone can tell me what kind of paper this is that would help too.
I see a lot of people have the Epson 1400. Does this printer use sublimation ink only or both?
Thanks.
The printer he used is the Epson C88 with pigment ink. It's on sale now on Epson's site for $85.
Just know that any Epson printer using their Durabrite pigment ink will do the same thing. For $300 you may be able to get their oversized paper printer.
While the 1400 does oversized paper, it does not use pigment ink out of the box. It uses dye ink.
There are ink kits you can buy that can turn this printer into pigment ink or sublimation ink printing. InkJetCarts Home Page sells alternative ink systems.
Should i just go with the 1900 model? it says on epson website: Epson UltraChrome Hi-GlossŪ 2 pigment ink it will end up the same price as the 1400 + the pigment ink kit.
What do you think?
I would think then you would be looking for pigment inks intead of sub inks, since sublimination is only good for printing on poly fabrics, while most tees are made of cotton.

I'm a cartoon artist and was going to do that (i have a few stores that want to sell them) but since you mentioned that is too high a volume to do at home, i may look at doing a smaller amount and i'll look at getting my designs done through a plastisol printing company as well.
Any recommendations for a good plastisol printing company?
What would be the costs (approx.) for a 10x10 inch design in bulk from a plastisol printing company?
Thank you all for your big help
one LAST question whats the cons of plastisol transfers eg. are the colors dull does ,loses quality after a cuple of washes etc.
Thank you again.

Plastisol transfers are as durable and colorfast as direct silkscreening; because it is silkscreening.
One con is, obviously, its more expensive to silkscreen to a transfer and then use a heat press to apply than to apply silkscreen directly to the garment.
But the pro's, at least for me, far outweigh the cons. #1 pro is being able to basically offer any garment, color, style, sex, etc. and always be "in stock" utilizing an inventory space of a few square feet instead of a few hundred square feet.
