I am looking at buying either the Mimaki Print & Cut CJV30 or Roland VersaCAMM SP-300 V does anyone out there have any views on the relative virtues of these?

Looked at both before settling on a Roland VP540. At the shows both performed about identical. The deciding factor for me was a direct comparison between costs and historical reliability. The CJV30 doesn't have a lot of history...the Roland has nearly a decade. Mimaki purchased the cut technology from another manufacturer, Roland used cutting technology they've used for many years and is very well proven. Roland's cutting technology is basically bullet-proof...Mimaki's may turn out to be just as good, I'm just not real big on paying that kind of money to be a Guinea Pig. And the number one reason...I could not find any evidence of reliability problems with the Versacamms anywhere I searched. Everything breaks, but damn if it didn't appear that Versacamms rarely ever do.

Are they both 30 incher? I don't think you'll go wrong with any of these machines from these two reliable Japanese companies. So, you just might look at the service you're going to get from the distributor. Also, the VP series is the current model for the versacamm, the SP is being phased out but it's still a very reliable machine. I also know that some companies can convert the versacamm so that you can use third party inks. I'm not sure if you have that option yet on the Mimaki.

Hi,
Thanks to all for the input I think I will go for the Roland as it has been out there for longer and it is 30" width compared to the 24" of the mimaki.
For art work and designs does anyone know of an off the shelf agency out there that we can purchase designs for use?
Or if there is a pool where we can share designs between us.

Depending on the intended use, there are lots of templates/vector arts, backgrounds or even stock photos (for sale and for free) on the net. They are just tools of course, and it would really help if you know the graphic softwares like photshop, corelDraw, Illustrator, etc. Congratulations ang best of luck on your new equipment. Have fun learning!

We use ours all the time for 1 off and multiples. If you can use Corel or Photoshop, there isn't much you can't do with these machines. We have even put vinyl stickers on plastic cups and water bottles and ran through the dishwasher. They have lasted for several years. We have had signs out in yards for years and window stickers on vehicles for years.
Re: Roland VersaCAMM SP-300 V versus Mimaki Print & Cut CJV30
The artwork is just as easy or hard as for vinyl, for designs we use 2 professional artists this is expensive but you can produce something that is unique for you. For the vinyl cutter we use a digitizing service which converts the bitmaps into vectors. The minimums are 1 piece if you like, quality is excellent but not all designs are suitable for this method. The media comes in a variety of qualities which are suitable for Tee Shirts more expensive at £9 a linear metre to £5 for nylon bags and jackets. You can get around 9 - 12 designs a metre so its not too bad and it will go on darks. If you have a design and want to use it for kids then resize it, print it, apply it. we mainly use it for our own branded Tee Shirts, but have started printing own own point of sale and will start doing contracts soon. Hope that helps if you need any more info do not hesitate.

Bought the Roland VP300 last installed last Friday and have been using it ever since I have to say it is brillant. The software is so easy to use and the results are terrific. If anyone is think of buying one of these machines I just don't see how the Roland can be improved.
Re: Roland VersaCAMM SP-300 V versus Mimaki Print & Cut CJV30
I was told that, Roland Versa Camm wont cut as accurate as the Mimaki when it come to print and cut work abv 50cm in length, according to my supplier for Solvent base media. The Mimaki can leave to run overnight to print and cut bulk order and still maintained the accuracy. while Versa Camm would crammed up the media if leave to long to print.
