Discuss the different brands, makes and models of printers used to print inkjet and laser heat transfers. Also includes information on the inks that can be used to make your own transfers.
Im new to making t shirts and im getting reay to buy my heat press today. also im going to be be buying a printer for transfers. the queation i have is should i get a epson 1280 used from somewhere or should i try to get a epson 1900 open bax from newegg.com for around 350. i want to get a pinter where i can change to ink setup so i can keep my cost lower in the long run. without a ink system how many tranfers can i expect to get with store ink from the store
If you only want to print cotton shirts and NOT do any sublimation work at all, then pretty much any printer will do. I would stay away from the R1900 though as well as the 1280 which is well past its sell-by-date. If you want A3, look at an R 1400 / R 1410.
You can also get refillable cartridges for this printer. With a bulk ink system, you should be able to get 40 - 50 pages or so.
The downside of the 1900 is that it's very similar in design to the R1800 and if you spill ink in the area where the nozzles are, this ink drains down into the print head and shorts out the electronics as well as corroding the cable where it connects to the head electronics board.
I don't think you can use Pigment ink, so if you want Pigment, the R1900 is probably a better but, but be extremely carefull about spilling ink in the area where the nozzles are.
The Epson carts drain fast. There are folks using the 1400 with 3rd party pigment inks. Here is one of the threads on that topic for you so you can read the feedback:
I just got a email from Leo at inkjetfly.com he said the 1400 can run pigment ink with the CIS they sell .he did say the 1900 has a better . How common is it for ink to leak from the head
i just ordered the epson 1400 refurbished from epson.com after what feels like days of looking at the forums i feel happy with this printer. im just going to be doing tranfers and im going to order the CIS with HT ink from inkjetfly.com in the morning thank you all for all the help
