Question Help Please!! Prints are coming out too bright, especially REDS!!

Hi all,

Its been a long time since I posted, But I am so hoping someone may be able to help me!! I've had my sublimation business for a couple of years now, and for the past year have been using the epson 1400 printer with air tanium inks, (bulk flow system) without any problems! (no major)

I have not knowingly altered any settings, but everything i now print is coming out almost luminous!! I have bright reds printing where there should be browns!!!

I have a sawgrass ICC ArTainium profile installed..I checked it, I think its as it should be... I have tried playing around with every setting I can think of but it always prints the same...mostly reds everywhere!!

I use photoshop to print my images, which are photos & graphics... I can't see I have changed anything here either!

I am having to refund customers, because I cannot print!! I am tearing my hair out here! There doesn't seem to be anyone to help when your printer goes wrong...Epson just say they can't help because I am not using genuine inks/paper!!

Hope someone may have an idea of what I can do...Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Liza,
Get rid of the Sawgrass profile for now, go to a standard Epson driver and try printing from there.
Where do you apply the profile, is it in the PShop driver or in Windows? What tends to happen is that two or more profiles get implemented in series which tends to screw the colour up.
Go to your PS colour preferences, set your working profiles to AdobeRGB1998 and euroscale coated v2.
Do a test print that you have created in PS not scanned in.
Let us know the results.

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for your advice! I Have just tried using the setting you suggested, but there must still be a setting somewhere that's not right, & I just don't know enough technical stuff to figure it out!! One thing I do know now, it cant be the printer that's not working properly, as I have tried printing from my old epson D88 and the colour is hideous on this print too!!

Someone helped me set up the sawgrass icc profile, so I really don't know how/where it was set up! If I try to print a photo using no profiles, the colour still prints with red everywhere! I may take it in to a computer place & see if they can perhaps see what I have done wrong!!

Thanks

Go to your PS colour settings in the Edit menu and turn them off - the colour prefs often get corrupted.
In your print setup choose no colour mangement and an epson media.
btw I've played at a few sessions in the pub at Ash.

Thanks for all your help Dave!! I believe I have figured out the problem... well actually I called someone out & i'm £50 quid lighter....& sooo annoyed with myself!!!! I have done so many nozzle checks..print checks..head cleans...& every time thought all colours were printing correctly....BUT failed to notice that only 5 colours were printing & NOT the 6th!! A BLUE!!!!!

So now I am a little closer to sorting the problem..But now I know one of the heads are blocked...does anyone know how I clean it?? I am not very technical...if it involves taking my printer apart...It will never be the same again!!!

(Lol...coincidence u have played there Dave!! Although its my local..only been there a few times!!)

It depends what is causing the problem!
Is there any nozzle printing from the blue head at all???
If there is it's just blocked & you can soak it, if there isn't it could be an electrical or an ink supply problem.
You said that the prints were bad on the D88 printer as wel...???

HI, I managed to get a tiny line 2 print from the blue!!! Nearly wrecked the printer by trying 2 follow instructions 2 clean it...Looking for some lever to pull the inks across (aparantly) to soak the sponges or something!! I knocked the little rollers off!! God I am a nightmare lol!!! Just managed to clip that back on..(after chewing up 6 pieces of paper)!! Heads still blocked tho!! Think the d88 is just cos inks r low & old & hadn't been used in a long time!! Um..I quit!!! Thanks for help again!
