Default Does the type of ink determine the mesh count?

It is my understanding that a low mesh count is typically used for designs without fine detail, and higher mesh counts are used for detailed designs. Does the type of ink play into the equation? For example, if I have a design that has a 21 pt font size, can I use either Plastisol or water-based inks using a 110 mesh count?

I have not used Plastisol yet, but I keep hearing that it looks more professional and would like to try. Thanks in advance for your input.

Not so much the type, as much as the brand and purpose, of ink also determines screen size. Thicker inks, such as opaques, need a lower mesh count to get through screens.

Plastisol inks, even at 21 pt, will work fine with a 110 mesh.

I'm planning to purchase "Union Ultrasoft Plastisol Plus Textile Ink". Does that sound like a good choice? I've got a job of 100 gold shirts with a one-color black design. Anything else I need to be mindful of for this?

Hi Michael

Ultrasoft is a very good formula for dark color/light shirt.

Union recommends 160-180 mesh for the best in softhand print feel and will work well for black on gold, and will help with edge sharpness on the type size.

Happy trails!
