Default plastisol emulsion and water based emulsion ?

so I am just curious if anyone has a good answer to this question. I have been doing shirts with plastisol for years and recently started getting into doing discharge shirts. I understand that emulsion made for plastisol is not good for water based and discharge inks because the water in the ink will slowly break it down but are there any drawbacks to using plastisol inks on emulsion made for water based ink? I can't seem to find one and if not why would there be 2 different kinds of emulsion? wouldn't it just be easier to use a universal water resistant emulsion?

I have been using the pro-chem swr-3 and so far am not seeing any problems using it for both discharge and plastisol shirts. thanks!

There are many Dual-cure emulsions that can be used for both water-based and plastisols, I just got some Ulano RLX, but haven't had a chance to try it.

I guess I just don't understand why anyone would make emulsions that don't work with both?

Because the ink-specific emulsions have properties tailored to each use. For instance, I don't know of any SBQ (pre-sensitized) emulsion that can be used for water-based or solvent inks. Dual-cure emulsions require mixing of the diazo, which in some cases is fairly toxic, and requires special handling. DC also have shorter shelf lives, I believe.
From my understanding, the multi-use emulsions are more difficult to reclaim than a standard SBQ, if all you are doing is plastisol.

It's kind of like saying, "Why don't they make just one oil for cars?"

Edit: Ulano QTX (SBQ) says it can be used for water-based as well

ah yeah that makes sense. I didn't think about pre-sensitized emulsion which I've heard does have a shelf life of about a year. I personally never thought it washed out as well or looked as crisp as dual cure so I don't use it but I can understand why people would. thanks

you have dual cure emulsion for water base ink and plastsol look at cromeline udc ace and you have solvent restance emulsions like RLX from ulano and all emulsions will work on plastsol inks .I don,t now of any that will work for all inks Water solvent and plastsol
