I don't want to have to buy a ton of different inks and I was wondering if it's ok to use my black opaque on my light shirts. Is there a difference?

Only that the feel of the ink on the shirt will be more pronounced. It will have a heavier hand.

As Joe said, there's the feel. Usually there's also the cost - transparent inks are often half the price of opaque inks.

Neither of those is necessarily a dealbreaker if it's something you want to do, but since it's a cost cutting exercise it's at least worth comparing the costs first.

If you print it through a little higher mesh you should be fine, you could also reduce it down a little.
