Default printing on waterproof polyester jackets

Hello,

I am trying to print a large 3 color ( underlay, green, spot white ) on a 100% polyester waterproof jacket. The jackets are charcoal gray and are made by Stormtech. They have an H2X waterproof breathable treatment. I have tried everything I have to get this accomplished and get nowhere. We use Quantumone by Wilflex and get okay results but the bleeding is still an issue. We tried a few nazdar products and can't seem to get anyof them to stay on the jackets. Those prints (nazdar) are brittle and flake off though they look great before they do. I imagine this waterproofing is whats killing us here but I'd appreciate some ideas if anyone has any. Thanks!

Polyester jackets are a problem due to their dye migration. Try One Stroke Inks. They have an ink that assists in blocking the dye from the polyester fabric. I'm sure the major ink manufacturers have a similar ink. We have had success with One Stroke. Call and talk with Dan about your problem.

We use Wilflex on rain coats and have no issues. How hot are your jackets coming out of the dryer? Have you added catalyst? Have you called Erin at Wilflex? She is really great and if she doesn't know the answer she will find it.

I use rubbing alcohol on the area where the print goes it helps to remove some of the waterproofing.Since a print will go over that spot the waterproofing will not matter.Second is the catalyst.I add it to all my inks when I print jackets. The print will be worn outside in all types of weather so it makes it more durable.Oh, let the rubbing alcohol dry before printing.

Catalyst is used to assist the ink in bonding with nylon, not polyester.

You will need a polyester ink for bleed resistance and catalyst will indeed help adhesion especially with a waterproof coating.

Excalibur Sport Pro would be an excellent choice since it cures at a lower temperature helping to reduce bleed.

Thanks very much for the help. Our other issue is we use only non pvc non phthalate inks. This excludes many of the options mentioned above. I think I may have gotten it with some one stroke enviromax polywhite. I need to wash and see how it holds up.
