Default plastisol ink rubs slightly off

A customer complained that they could rub off some ink from a canvas totebag. We print a heavier deposit on the uneven surface of totebags that on the t-shirts, and if I rub hard with a white t-shirt against the totebag on a hard table, I can get a slight pale halo of color. THis is true for the 1-color spot color designs more that for the 4-color process designs, where there is less ink deposited. It even seems to be true of the water based ink. Is this due to dryer temp or is it normal? It occurs with both Union and WIlflex premixed plastisol.

Sounds like the ink was not cured properly. Plastisol has to acheive 320 degrees in order to be cured. If the layer is thicker than normal the dry time needs to be longer so the heat can penetrate the entire layer of plastisol, not just the top.

I will check the temp with some temp strips. All of the dryer settings have been the same for years, and the dryer has an alarm to show if the temp drops. I thought that if you took some white fabric and rub it hard with your fingertip against the thick ink deposit on a totebag or sweat you could always get a slight halo of ink to come off.

Yes the cure time is key. If the plastisol ink is cured it will not rub off or crack.... i've had problems but learned the touch
