Discuss the different plastisol screen printing inks and curing methods on the market. Share tips on getting the best results with the different ink manufacturers.
We're having an issue with silver plastisol ink. When we print a design that has fairly thick, solid lines, we're getting a bit of rippling of the print surface when we pull the shirt off of the pallet. We've used both 50/50, and 100% cotton jersey shirts. This particular design has solid and heavy vertical lines. What could be causing it? We notice this mostly with metallic inks.
Not sure on the brand, since it came from a guy who received it as a sample from someone else. We think the color was called quicksilver. It's on a 155 screen, as we want a subtle print and don't want to lay down a ton of ink. We're flash curing, and then sending it down the belt.
Right, but it seems like the more ink we put down, the more of a ripple we would get. We're going after more of a shimmer than a full-blown, thick metallic print. We've also had this happen with regular opaque ink, too, or occasion. It's always when we are printing straight, somewhat thick lines, either horizontal ones or vertical ones. And, we are often printing of a fine jersey instead of a typical gildan-type t-shirt.
That's something we will consider, but since we also have this problem occasionally with other opaque plastisols, we are wondering if anyone else has experienced it.
Are you stretching the shirt out when you pull it off the platen? You could have too much adhesive and the ink is still warm from the flash, you stretch it out pulling it off and it ripples as it cures.
