Printing Glow in the dark plastisol??? Help needed.
Ladies and Gentle men.
I have a question regarding the use of Glow in the dark plastisols. I have read the other glow in the dark posts and did not find an answer.
I have a job that will need to be printed using glow in the dark ink. the sample I was given is dark navy shirt with an off white glow in the dark plastisol ink on it.
since this is my first glow job, i was hoping for some help from the experts.
My distributor sold me some clear plastisol and some powder, which has a very light greenish tone to it. now they told me to mix these two together and vuala, I should have my off white glow in the dark ink. I mixed a small amount and smeared it on a shirt, cured and the ink looked fairly clear to me (no pigment), it did charge when put up to a light source.
My question is, if I mix this stuff, will I get enough pigment in the mix? or should I print the design using white and then print over it with the glow in the dark? obviously using a different screen.
Has anyone else been up against this. now this is for a fire department and don't want to hand them a bunch of green glowing shirts. I want them to be off white in the day, and glowing in the dark.
Thank you in advance.

i just printed a couple of shirts to test speedballs glow in the dark ink. it seems to be very translucent also. i would say you may have to print as a two color using an opaque white as a base. more testing is required.

thank you kind sirs.
A couple of screens and some very bring white underbase and vuala.
it glows quite well, now I'm not saying this is the proper method of mixing, but it seems like the less powder, the less muddy greenish color and it still holds it's glow.

Are there other colors besides green? Have you tried it on a white shirt? Is it possible to print on a white shirt so the glow in the dark ink is almost invisible in normal lighting?

You can print Glow in the Dark without any color under it, but it will have a faint greenish tinge to the print when printed on a white shirt with no base. You can mix with clear which gives you the opportunity to print it over a color (which is usually how most of the jobs we do with glow are setup), but it's not 100% translucent as it has a bit of green color to the glow pigments and it will dull the color it prints over slightly.
Hope this info helps!

Re: Printing Glow in the dark plastisol??? Help needed.
Hello All!!
Our recommendations for printing glow in the dark ink are as follows:
- Print on light or white garments or a light or white underbase. The glow properties reflect off of the white and glow longer. If you print directly on a dark garment or underbase the glow will be absorbed the the substrate or underbase and give a muted glow.
- Keep the glow in the dark powder in a clear carrier or do not mix the pre mixed glow in the dark ink with a base or color. The fillers in the inks will not allow the ink to have a bright glow.
- Print through a fairly open mesh. You want to make sure that the glow in the dark particles are passing through the mesh.
