It depends on your market demographic.
When I was printing my shirts in the UK, kid of an arty threadless style, we sold 5% small, 45% medium, 35% large, 15% xl. IF you're selling a more geeky/rude style, I'd expect that to be skewed a little futher to the large and xl.
