When I got my first cutter, I used a table as my stand. I had no issues with the function of the cutter. I recently bought a new cutter and a stand. I like having it on a stand a lot. I feel it is easier to move and position . this allows me more room when I need it. the stand is nice, but not a necessity. .... JB
